Church Fundraising and Giving in Brooklyn
In 1986, Pastor Enock Lors had $40 in his checking account and a congregation with no building of its own. That September, with help from the Church of God (Holiness) Home Mission Foundation Department, the church purchased 2315 Tilden Avenue for $98,000. The congregation has kept building ever since.
Giving at Brooklyn Church of God (Holiness) supports the life of the church, from Sunday worship to ministries that reach from Brooklyn to Haiti.
What Giving Has Built
When the congregation received its building, the space was empty. There were no chairs, the bathroom sat in one corner, and it could seat only 60 to 75 people. Members gave, and the building changed.
Under the founder, the sanctuary was renovated in 2003 and again in 2012. Those projects added a dining room, a Sunday school classroom in the basement, and a baptism pool. Under Senior Pastor Rev. Jean-Pierre Lors, the basement was renovated in 2018, and in 2021 the church bought a 15-passenger van for $59,000 in cash. Today the sanctuary holds up to 150 people.
The 2026 Sanctuary Renovation
The most recent project gave the sanctuary a new architectural design at a cost of approximately $200,000. It took place in 2026, the same year the church celebrated its fortieth anniversary on September 6.
How the Congregation Funded It
Support came from several directions at once. Committees took on delegated responsibilities. Members used fundraising envelopes, which brought in $25,000, and made pledges totaling another $25,000. The church allocated $90,000 of its own. A forty-day revival and the fortieth-anniversary banquet rallied the congregation around the effort.
These figures describe different sources of support. They are not a statement of cash received or of the full project cost.

Giving Beyond Our Building
Not every gift stays on Tilden Avenue. Each year during the third week of September, the congregation holds a special collection for the Haiti Project Helping Hand, which supports children in Haiti through educational assistance, prayer, and compassionate service.
Closer to home, the same congregation serves its neighbors through the free Saturday breakfast, offered March through November, and the other community outreach programs it runs in the neighborhood.
The church's Finance Department handles stewardship and financial administration. It is one of the ministries that keeps the congregation running, alongside the Maintenance Department that cares for the building and worship space.
